Alan started his career in technology in the late 70s after going off grid in 1975. From this experience, he developed a lifetime respect for energy (in)dependence. In 1997, he founded Questar Microsystems and designed and manufactured over 40 products including industrial automation hardware, software, distributed hydro-generation, professional digital audio equipment, and consumer electronic products. In the 1990s Questar was involved in the internet as an infrastructure and software developer to fortune 500 companies. In 2009 Questar was renamed Questar Energy Systems to focus on solar and wind opportunities and participated in a number of projects including the designed and manufacturing of commercial solar tracking systems. In 2014 Drift Marketplace was formed to take advantage of the knowledge gained in autonomous nodal networking, machine learning, cryptography, and wholesale energy markets. Drift was granted two patents in 2017 on this work and currently has an additional three patents pending. Alan's chief responsibilities are; business management, systems design, supply chain creation, and energy market operations. Drift is a FERC licensed virtual utility, focused on distributed aggregation of supply/demand and delivering ‘Energy as a Service’ to end consumers.

Jan Pellis is innovation theme manager ‘Flexibility and future market facilitation’ at grid operator Stedin. He is committed to starting innovation projects to develop the role of Stedin in the energy transition. This covers enabling and connecting new and existing parties in the energy market to test solutions for the energy system of the future. He also contributes to different nation wide working groups to understand and shape the energy transition. Recent projects Pellis is involved are: ‘the Layered Energy System’, ‘An assessment framework for the application of flexibility in the Dutch power system’, ‘The future of the energy-intensive industries in the Netherlands’ and ‘Stedin Flex acceleration program’.
Pellis studied Electrical Engineering at the Eindhoven University of Technology. After his graduation in 1997 he started his career in the energy sector at high voltage cable manufacturer NKF (nowadays Prysmian). From 2002 he has been working at Stedin in different expert and management functions. Pellis has built up broad experience in energy transition modelling, strategy development, innovation and asset management of gas and electricity networks.

Previously, Rene was CEO at APX, Europe’s premier provider of power exchange and clearing services for the wholesale market, operating transparent platforms in the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and Belgium. Rene served at the Board of Directors of Powernext, a regulated investment firm based in Paris which designs and operates state-of-the-art electronic trading platforms for spot and derivatives markets in the European energy sector.
